You'll feed, pet, and play with the adorable Amaru while also engaging in guided mindfulness exercises and journal activities that build focus and resilience to stress, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Gabe Pappalardo is the founder of Raleigh-based Six Wing Studios, a pro-socially focused videogame company in Raleigh, NC. He holds a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology as well as a RYT-200 Integral Yoga Teacher certification. Dr. Gabe applies his expertise in game-design, behavioral science, human-centered design, and mindfulness-based well-being interventions to direct the team creating Amaru: The Self-Care Virtual Pet with the goal of aiding players in developing focus and resilience to anxiety and depression.
Six Wing Studios is a pro-socially focused videogame company in Raleigh, NC. SWS strives to use gameplay and narrative to empower players with skills that translate outside of its games, with The Fog of Maya series focusing on equipping players with skills like mindfulness meditation to aid their mental well-being. The first game in the series, Amaru: The Self-care Virtual Pet, is a game that engages players to create habits that foster mental well-being and leverages gamification to scaffold against drop-off and reward continued practice. Amaru has recently received the support of a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign, the endorsement of two mental-health organizations, and strong praise from fans.
