About this workshop

In this six-hour workshop you will learn the basics of html, css and javascript by creating an application that searches Instagram for photos based off a tag. We call this application: InstaSearch.

Together, we will learn the following:

HTML basics

  • How to get set up on your own computer
  • Use the basic content tags (headings, images, links, paragraphs)
  • Create different sections in your website (layout)
CSS basics
  • Basic styling properties and how to connect with HTML
  • Selectors and how the different sections of a site
  • Using a CSS Framework (i.e. Bootstrap)
JavaScript basics
  • Why is JavaScript such a popular language?
  • The purpose of JavaScript and how it drives interactivity in your site
  • Foundations of thinking like a programmer
  • Consuming an API and making your application dynamic

Prereqs & Preparation

Please bring a laptop with a text editor already installed. We suggest Sublime Text.
