About this workshop

Many of us have had ideas for mobile apps float through our minds, and it’s entirely possible one of your ideas could turn into something great — but without the knowledge of how to create, design, and market your new app, it’s impossible for your idea to come to fruition. This workshop will teach you about the process of creating an app from start to finish — from learning about the appverse itself to development, design, economics,management, and prototyping.


  • 10:00am - 10:20am: Day 1 Kick off

  • 10:20am - 10:40am: The Mobile Development Cycle

  • 10:40am - 11:10am: Pen & Paper Activity (Pt. 1)

  • 11:10am - 11:40am: Apple's UIKit User Interface Catalog

  • 11:40am - 12:10pm: Pen & Paper Activity (Pt. 2)

  • 12:10pm - 12:30pm: Introduction to MarvelApp

  • 12:30pm - 1:00pm: Lunch

  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm: Prototyping Activity with MarvelApp

  • 2:00pm - 2:30pm: Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (Pt. 1)

  • 2:30pm - 3:50pm: Introduction to Balsamiq

  • 3:50pm - 4:00pm: Day 1 Wrap Up (including Homework Assignment)


  • 10:00am - 10:10am: Day 2 Kick off

  • 10:10am - 10:40am: Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (Pt. 2)

  • 10:40am - 1:00pm: Prototyping Activity with Balsamiq (+ Lunch)

  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm: Student Presentations

  • 2:00pm - 2:20pm: iOS App Development (Background)

  • 2:20pm - 2:40pm: iOS App Development (Resources)

  • 2:40pm - 2:55pm: iOS App Development (Monetization)

  • 2:55pm - 3:00pm: Day 2 Wrap Up


  • Manage the app development process from start to finish

  • Create wireframes and create a working prototype on your phone

  • Understand the basics of mobile app design and the holistic appverse

  • Use prototyping tools to mock up a mobile app

  • Understand the steps and skills needed to build an iOS app from start to finish

  • Understand the concepts and principles that make a great app and how to apply them to your own ideas

  • Understand the basics of managing the app development process

Prereqs & Preparation

Please bring the following items:

  • Computer (Required)

Macbook Air or Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks or Yosemite, PC with Windows 8 iPhone or iPad (Optional)

Also, please register accounts at the following websites 1 week prior to the class. Please do not register the accounts any earlier, as we'll be using utilizing free trials for some of these sites:
