About this workshop

As a web developer how do you interact with the physical world through sensors and electronics? In this workshop, we will experiment with various sensors like proximity, temperature, tilt, light and see it interact with web technologies on the browser. At the end, we will also have a mini hackathon where you will be able to use these sensors and your creativity to display or trigger them on a web browser!

All participants will receive a set of Genuino boards, sensors and other other required electronics worth SGD 60 in all. Participants will get to keep their kits after the class.

Takeaways

  • Connect physical sensors to Genuino and Web technologies
  • Learn how to connect sensors and code with JavaScript (Node.js) using Johnny Five library with Genuino and Firmata
  • Measure sensor values like light, temperature, proximity, etc and interact with these values on a web browser
  • Make your first little Internet of Things project!

Prereqs & Preparation

For this short half-day workshop, you should already know a little bit of HTML, CSS, Node, Npm and JavaScript so that we can dive straight into hooking up the electronics with web technologies. Please bring your laptop installed with Node, NPM, your favourite text editor.
