About this workshop

D3.js is a powerful tool used to create data driven documents and interactive data visualizations in modern web browsers. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of D3.js, including why it is important and best practices of utilization. You’ll then reinforce what you’ve learned with interactive activities that will guide you through the D3.js building blocks. You’ll walk away feeling confident in your newfound abilities to program using D3.js.

Prereqs & Preparation

Students should have a basic understanding of web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, DOM, SVG, HTML5 Canvas, etc.) and JavaScript knowledge (functions, control statements, basic data types and structures), as well as an awareness of data visualization and its benefits.

Students should bring a laptop with Google Chrome and Python installed (http://www.python.org/getit/), as well as a text editor (Notepad of Note on Mac/Windows also works fine).
