Java is one of the most widespread and popular programming languages yet is one of the harder ones to get started with. This workshop is meant as an intro to the language as well as the Spring framework as related to building modern web applications. We will also briefly touch on object oriented topics and design patterns as they relate to Java.
This is a very hands on workshop and students will leave with a working API built using Spring as well as a number of small exercises using Java fundamentals.
After this workshops students should be able to read and understand Java syntax as well write their own programs including creating APIs using Spring MVC.
This workshop is designed for junior to mid level developers that have at least a year’s worth of real world experience using any server side language. Some familiarity with modern web frameworks like Rails, Django or Laravel would be helpful as well as a basic understanding of relational databases. More experienced developers that are new to Java are also welcome!
To work with in class examples and exercises you will need to have a modern computer that can run the latest Java version and we will use Eclipse as an IDE. Both of these are free to download and install.
