About This Event

So, how do you make your aspirations of becoming your own boss come to life?

Enter the side hustle. Having a job with great pay and solid benefits is rewarding, but there's one thing that's even more meaningful: working for yourself! But, we all have bills to pay and responsibilities we've made, so most of us don't have the luxury of immediately quitting our day jobs to pursue our own self-employed dream careers.

Join our fireside chat with Alex as she shares tactical tips and tricks on the how (and why) behind starting a successful side hustle while keeping your day job.

Jason Waters Photo

Creative Director,
Waters Atelier + Event Moderator

Growing up in LA’s skateboarding + punk scene, Waters got his start in the action sports industry before he fell in love with high-end fashion- working for DKNY, Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers. In 2013, armed with an affinity for tailored clothing and a stellar client list, he launched Waters Ateliers, a bespoke suit + shirtmaker. It’s not just custom suiting; it’s a whole curated experience with a one-on-one consultation. Everything is bespoke and one of one and his clients—pro athletes, musicians, surgeons, attorneys and entrepreneurs—know when a garment is specifically made for them, they are getting something that no one else has. On occasion, he releases limited collections of ready-to-wear American-made shirting, suiting and blazers.

About Our Partners

Chrome City California

In 2014, Alex founded Chrome City Chicago as the result of her desire to tell a deeper story on behalf of her clients. The company has evolved from a small PR firm to an eclectic creative agency that represents some of the city’s top artistic and hospitality entrepreneurs. After finding their niche with clients like Bonhomme Hospitality, Siren Betty Design and more, Alex made the decision to launch Chrome City California in 2018. She will focus on consulting with creative entrepreneurs and clients in fashion and hospitality. Her greatest joy comes from propelling the voices of creative communities through strategic communications and her one year old son, Henry.

The Factory continues to build a growing community of creativity and collaboration for creatives of San Diego. Topo Chico

Legend says that when the daughter of Aztec Emperor Moctezuma I became ill, she was carried hundreds of miles from Tenochtitlan to a spring in a faraway northern land. Its waters flowed at high temperatures, and whomever bathed in them would regain vigor, joy and happiness. After spending some time there, taking baths and drinking water from the spring, the Princess returned to the kingdom optimistic, strong, happy and refreshed. Anyone who has tasted a cold Topo Chico on a warm day can believe the story of such spectacular refreshment.
