Games are an incredibly powerful medium with 42% of Americans playing video games 3 or more hours per week. This workshop will include instruction on the key steps in designing a game before students jump in and work on design levels for a game themselves.
This class will teach fundamental principles of game design that apply on any platform or medium, including moment-based design, brainstorming, play testing and iteration. The lecture will include examples from video games and card games with explicit takeaways that can be applied directly to the creation of almost any entertainment experience.
In order to provide ample time to delve into the craft of game design, this class will include paper prototyping in addition to practical applications on a computer. Design concepts will be generated quickly so they can be tested during the bootcamp.
