About This Workshop

Are you a creative or entrepreneur that wishes you could speak tech with your web development team? Maybe you wish you could code a bit yourself? Programming for Non-Programmers is a workshop designed to help non-programmers communicate more efficiently with developers or to help aspiring developers get started.

General Assembly’s classes, workshops and events are recreational and for avocational purposes only. No certificate is awarded.


You will be introduced to a broad overview of programming and learn the following along the way:

  • What is programming?
  • What can you build with various languages?
  • What is web development?
  • The difference between a web site and web app
  • Stages of web development
  • The difference between front-end and back-end web development
  • What are common programming concepts?


  • This class is taken completely online
  • We will provide a link to the platform on the day of the class
  • This class requires a computer and strong internet connection

About the Instructor

Tyler Lane is a freelancer living in Austin. After graduating from Eckerd College with a degree in Computer Science they moved to Austin and have worked professionally as a software engineer for over five years.

Tyler has taught the Software Engineering Immersive course at General Assembly and currently teaches the part-time Python course. They also teach improv with Merlin Works. They are currently a producer for the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and play guitar in an emo cover band called Grackle! at the Disco.

Tyler is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns!
