About the Presenters

Ilan Israelstam Photo

Co-Founder,
BetaShares ETFs

Ilan is an investing expert, Aussie entrepreneur and co-founder of BetaShares ETFs - a local born and bred manager of exchange traded funds (‘ETFs’).

Since humble beginnings in 2010, BetaShares has grown to be one of the leading ETF managers in the Australian market, and now manage $5.7 billion of investor’s money across 46 funds which trade on the ASX. Needless to say, Ilan knows what it takes to start small, and grow big.

Ilan is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experiences in a clear, practical, and no-frills way to help investors who don’t know where to start, or just at the beginning, power on their own path.

Ilan is also a Principal at Apex Capital Partners, an investment firm which provides venture capital to exceptional founders who are revolutionising the financial services landscape. Ilan is a Director of Sellable, a property technology company providing Australian real estate owners with a new way of selling their homes. Prior to Apex, Ilan worked at global strategy consultants The Boston Consulting Group, focusing primarily on Private Equity and Financial Services. He started his career in Venture Capital, and was involved in building one of Australia’s first venture capital funds.

Ilan lives in Sydney with his family which includes his Bernese Mountain Dog, Lottie. He’s also a self-confessed sneakerhead and is starting to run out of cupboard space to house his growing collection of limited edition sneakers. Ilan has a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws from the University of New South Wales.

Alec - Equity Mates Photo

Co-Founder,
Equity Mates Investing Podcast

Alec, 26, is lazy. If there’s an easy way and a hard way to do something – Alec probably won’t do it. Which is why investing is perfect for him. Buying an ownership stake in a company that employs staff to make their shareholders more money, that’s a pretty good deal. So Alec bought his first shares in 2013, choosing the law firm Slater + Gordon. Within a year that investment had lost 99% of its value and Alec had learnt a few lessons along the way. Now a little warier, but just as lazy, Alec dreams of being able to quit his job and live off the hard work of others (and the dividends they produce). He’s a Sydney Swans fan, one of the few that will argue that Buddy was a bargain, and he hopes Equity Mates helps explain the importance of investing early and the joys of compounding returns.

Bryce - Equity Mates Photo

Co-Founder,
Equity Mates Investing Podcast

Bryce has had an interest in the stock market ever since his parents encouraged him to save 50c a fortnight from the age of 5, to put towards shares. When he finally saved $500 he bought his first share – BKI – a Listed Investment Company, and since then hasn’t stopped. He hopes that Equity Mates can really help make investing understandable and accessible, and not something that is scary and put in the 'too-hard' basket. He's incredibly passionate about spreading the love for investing - it's a life skill that everyone should have. He holds a Bachelor of Business, is an Essendon Football Club fanatic, and lives in Sydney.

About Our Partners

Finimize

It all started when we had some savings ourselves and couldn’t figure out what to do with them. Everyone tells you to budget and save. But no one tells you what to do after that. You know you should be doing something smart with your money, but who do you listen to? You’ve read about cryptocurrencies, researched robo advisors but when it came down to it, you didn't feel confident in handing over your money. A financial advisor could help you, but you either don’t trust them or can’t afford to pay them.

We dare to envisage a world where you don’t need a financial advisor – much as you no longer need a travel agent thanks to the likes of Expedia. Just as you do with films, restaurants and hotels, we see a world where you consult an independent platform before making any financial decision.

Refund Policy

We understand that, sometimes, plans change. If you can no longer make it to a class or workshop, please email us at least 7 days before the scheduled event date. No refunds will be given to cancellations made within a week of the class or workshop.
