About this event

It’s no easy feat designing a good user experience. But it is even harder to design one that does not nudge users down a path that’s in the interest of a company. Such dark patterns, coupled with a designer’s unconscious bias, are incompatible with human-centered design. While most design metrics revolve around user engagement, we should be careful that business objectives do not get in the way of the principles of ethics. Many ethical gaps have been exposed over recent years. From uncontrollable propaganda on Facebook to unwanted surveillance and data collection, the systems we’ve created are failing in real time and affecting our society in vast and devastating ways. As designers, there is a moral obligation to create something that has a positive impact on the world. Consumers value the trust they give businesses and when companies design experiences that are ethical, transparent, and put the users’ interests first, the natural results are better user experience and higher customer retention and loyalty. Join GA & M+P for an event exploring ethics in design, and hear from local UX, UI, and Product Designers about how to build a just digital future.
