About this event

ES6, or ECMAScript 2015 is the 6th major release of the ECMAScript language. ECMAScript is the "proper" name for the language we all have grown to love (or hate) called Javascript.

ES6 has been a long overdue update to JS, and has spread quickly throughout the web development ecosystem. Because large corporations like Google and Facebook have been using ES6 in their flagship libraries and frameworks like Angular and React, knowledge of ES6 is a must for any web developer, regardless of skill level.

In this meetup, we'll explore the practical uses of ES6, things you can start using today.

  • Block scoped variables
  • Generators
  • Promises
  • Transpiling your ES5 code to ES6 with Babel
  • Template Strings
  • Importing and exporting Javascript modules
  • Arrow Functions
  • Class syntactic sugar
  • And tons more!

While this meetup is directed towards entry and junior level developers, mid, senior, and neckbeard level developers are welcome to come for terrible humor and embarrassing photos of the presenter.
