About This Workshop

The second day of this five-part course is great for students interested in taking an immersive at GA. You can take any of the one-day workshops this week, or all five.

This workshop is all CSS all day! We’ll cover the basics of CSS selectors and how to use CSS to style an HTML document. We’ll also talk about responsive design using a CSS framework called Bootstrap.

  • Style all instances of a particular HTML element on a web page
  • Describe the difference between class and id selectors
  • Apply styles to specific elements by selecting elements with classes and ids
  • Apply a set of styles to children of a specific class or tag
  • Change the style of a specific element using an inline style attribute
  • Explain how margin, border, padding, and content relate to one another in the box model
  • Adjust element spacing using padding and margin
  • Describe the difference between block, inline, and inline-block elements
  • Explain the difference between and use cases of static, relative, absolute, and fixed positioning
  • Use floats to position/remove content from the standard document flow
  • Identify the element's boxes when viewing a website
  • Use Chrome's Web Inspector to explore an element's box properties Understand how to use Bootstrap in a small, front-end project

She also loves helping other developers learn and develop their skills. She was a TA and Instructional Associate for WDI before becoming an Instructor in 2016.
