About this event

    Tentative Schedule:
  • 6:30pm: Pizza + Beer networking
  • 7:00pm: TBD with Rebecka Flynn, Implementation Manager at Dataiku
  • 7:30pm: Using Deep Reinforcement Learning for More Effective Type-1 Diabetic Care with Liliana Cruz-Lopez, Columbia University

Talk Abstracts: Using Deep Reinforcement Learning for More Effective Type-1 Diabetic Care with Liliana Cruz-Lopez, Columbia University: Traditionally model driven insulin controllers are utilized for effective management of blood glucose for diabetic patients. Given the reactive interplay between insulin and the resulting blood glucose, we adapted a Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm to propose a Deep Reinforcement Learning-based insulin controller and analyze its efficacy in achieving better glucose control. This talk will explore how we tested and applied our Deep Reinforcement Learning model using simulations, while comparing them with the widely used Padova model for efficacy.

Speaker bios: Liliana is a graduate student in the Data Science Institute at Columbia University. Her areas of interest are applied Machine Learning including Reinforcement and Deep Learning for a variety of industry domains including healthcare, smarter cities and financial engineering. She is passionate about exploring how such data driven analysis could make world a better place. Liliana has worked on a variety of industry domains including a healthcare startup where she had the opportunity to build a real-time AI driven connected health analytics platform for analyzing patient data. She has developed various analytic models for providing deeper insights about diabetic, cardiac and sleep disorder from medical and sensor data.

Rebecka is an Implementation Manager at Dataiku in NYC where she works with clients to be able to properly implement and onboard Dataiku into their internal infrastructure helping to ensure success. Previous to Dataiku she worked at McKinsey and Company at the North American Knowledge Center with the Advanced Analytics Practice.
