During our introductory workshop, explore the job Harvard Business Review has dubbed “the sexiest of the 21st century,” and see how modern businesses are harnessing the power of data to drive innovation. Working with real-world case studies, you’ll:
Chart your own career path. Pick up where this workshop leaves off. Enhance your professional skill set in our 10-week, part-time Data Science course or become job-ready with our 12-week, full-time Data Science Immersive program.
Explain the field of data science, defining common roles, benefits, and trends. Explore some popular tools and resources to visualize, analyze, and model data. Recognize the different types of problems that can be solved by data scientists. Apply the data science workflow to provide real world recommendations.
Bring a laptop. Install Anaconda beforehand. *Tip: Scroll to your operating system version and click on the install button for Anaconda with Python 2.7. Note: We'll be using Python version 2.7 in this workshop. If you are using a PC, please install the git for windows terminal beforehand.
-For students on Windows, you’ll need Microsoft Windows 8/10 (32- or 64-bit). For those with Macs, you’ll need the Mac OS X 10.8.5 or higher, up to 10.11.4 (El Capitan).
-Upgrade your operating system before class, if needed.
Students should have some basic technical aptitude, orientation to computers, and the curiosity to learn new tools.
Ramkumar Hariharan Institute for Systems Biology
Ramkumar Hariharan is a scientist at the Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle where he analyzes big data with a biomedical focus. He is also a visiting scientist to RIKEN, Japan. He is a hardcore Pythonista, and uses the language extensively on his job. He hails from Kerala, India and has a PhD in an interdisciplinary field. He loves going through the think-code- debug cycle iteratively to crack complex computational problems. In his career so far, he has transitioned seamlessly across different job profiles globally, stating out as a bioinformatics faculty in India.
Ram is currently delving deeper into Computer Science, and solidifying his Object Oriented Python expertise. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his family, trying out new eat-outs, and is passionate about writing short stories for children.
