About this workshop

This workshop will provide attendees with information about legal issues that, if not addressed, can result in costly litigation. The legal issues are in the areas of business law, employment law, and cyber law. Many business fail to draft formation documents (other than their articles of incorporation) that can protect their business in the event of a business dispute. We will identify which formation documents you need, the information that the documents should contain, and how the creation of the documents can protect your business. You will also learn the importance of the separation of assets and the characteristics that a court may use to determine if there is a proper separation of business and personal assets.

We will also discuss about common legal issues business owners face when hiring and employing employees and independent contractors. We wil give you examples of businesses that failed to create employment agreements, compensation agreements, and limit their supervision of independent contractors and how it affected their businesses.

You will also learn about common legal issues that business owners and entrepreneur face when they fail to include certain clauses in contracts and get a copy of a “bad” contract to identify areas of weakness. Lastly you will learn about common legal issues that business owners and entrepreneurs face when advertising their goods or services on the web and when they collect and use customer email addresses specifically, federal regulations that require privacy notices, terms and conditions statements, and email privacy. You will also be provided with guidelines provided by the Federal Trade Commission, the federal agency charged with prosecuting violation of the + CAN Spam Act.
