D3.js is a powerful open-source tool used to create data-driven documents (that's what D3 stands for!) and interactive data visualizations in modern web browsers. In this class, you’ll learn what is D3.js used for, including why it is important and best practices of utilization. You’ll then reinforce what you’ve learned with interactive activities that will guide you through the D3.js building blocks. You’ll walk away feeling confident in your newfound abilities to program using D3.js.
Students should have a basic understanding of web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, DOM, SVG, HTML5 Canvas, etc.) and JavaScript knowledge (functions, control statements, basic data types and structures), as well as an awareness of data visualization and its benefits.
Students should bring a laptop with Google Chrome and Python installed (http://www.python.org/getit/), as well as a text editor (Notepad of Note on Mac/Windows also works fine).
