About this workshop

While Squarespace is one of the most elegant, flexible, and user-friendly platforms around for building portfolio, marketing, and "brochure" websites, there are still some best practices for site organization and customization that aren't built into those beautiful templates. This 90-minute class will give you some of the handiest tips and tricks for optimizing, customizing, and fancifying your Squarespace site.

1. Optimizing Information Architecture Learn about storytelling through information architecture, and Familian&'s proven process for organizing site content into easily updatable sections.

2. Deeply Customizing Template CSS See some examples of Squarespace CSS customization to create more deeply branded navigation and blog posts without creating a completely custom theme (as that has a number of drawbacks).

3. Embedding 3rd-party Javascript into Pages When you're trying to embed something especially complex into a Squarespace page (like a MapBox map or a D3 visualization), iframes alone just won't do the trick. So we'll walk through a few examples of embedding JavaScript, CSS and HTML into any page."
