About this workshop

We live in a data-driven world where the demands of every job are increasingly focused on providing solid metrics, crunching the numbers, and producing a business decision based on the evidence. But how do we do that? Even if we have solid mathematical and data skills, how can we be certain we’re reasoning correctly about the data? And what do we do if we aren’t data scientists?

In this class, you will get an introduction to some real-life applications of statistics. Instead of a class focused on teaching you how calculate standard deviation and use t-tables, we’ll learn to enjoy some of the hidden benefits of thinking statistically, whether it’s reasoning better about information we hear in the news or learning to apply ideas about sample size and averages to your work life. We’ll discuss common pitfalls to solid statistical inferences and learn how to avoid them.

Everyone can learn to leverage the concepts of statistics to make better decisions about the data.

Takeaways

  • 10 statistical concepts and how to apply them in real life.
  • Useful triggers and questions to ask about data
  • Techniques to turn these concepts into data artifacts and stories for relevant audiences.
