About This Workshop

Bring your creative ideas to life with Adobe Illustrator, the industry-standard vector graphics software, used by designers and illustrators who want to create digital graphics, logos, illustrations, and original typography. This workshop is designed to get you up and running with Adobe Illustrator in just one day. The focus will be on step-by-step instruction leading students through the most important tools and concepts in Illustrator.

  • Learn the basics: how to open a file, image trace, add text, use layers and brushes.
  • Create vector line art illustration using the pen tool.
  • Design an original vector logo or icon using Illustrator.

Prereqs & Preparation

This is an introductory course designed for first time and beginning Illustrator users. No prior experience with Illustrator is required for this class.

All students must be able to bring a laptop to class (Mac preferred). You will need to have Adobe Illustrator version CS4 or higher already downloaded on this laptop for the start of class. The full version of Adobe Illustrator CS6 or the free 30-day trial version of it can be found at http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator.

Danielle McWaters is a creative who specialized in design, direction, and branding. After graduating from Boston University with a BA photojournalism, Danielle decided to branch off and pursue another passion, graphic design. She joined the creative team at Benefit Cosmetics and paralleled her on job training with a two-year design program through UC Berkeley Extension. After six years of working on product packaging and global advertising campaigns, she left to start her own boutique design studio, Designsake Studio, based here in San Francisco. Currently she is working with both established and start-up companies on branding and packaging projects.

Danielle is a believer of design and it’s ability to create new connections and lasting impressions. It drives her to create things that are not only authentic, but that matter. Working alongside her clients, she develops strategies and solutions to transform big ideas into stand out design.
