About this event

In an economy driven by innovation and knowledge… in marketplaces engaged in intense competition and constant renewal… in a society facing complex business, political, scientific, technological, and environmental challenges, the skills of our workforce are crucial to our state’s and nation’s competitiveness. The new reality in preparing our students for life in the 21st century centers on understanding that the workforce they’re entering is global, and required skills are increasingly multimodal and digital. Workforce success for the individual will require the ability to adapt as the pace and need for innovation accelerates. STEM knowledge and specifically, computer science, underlies most innovation, from biotechnology to cinematography to national security. Are our schools equipped to move beyond simple computer literacy to computer science that involves the use of critical thinking and problem solving? What can our education system do to prepare students to innovate and create the new technologies that drive local and national economies? What can we, as education stakeholders, do to chart a path for public education that will secure our economic competitiveness?

Program panelists include Michael Robertson, Executive Director, TAG Education Collaborative and Gilda Lyon, CTAE STEM Coordinator, Georgia DOE. Additional participants will be announced soon.
