General Assembly and St. Nicks Alliance Set to Launch Fifth Data Analytics Training Cohort for NYC Residents

General Assembly
September 16, 2024

At General Assembly, we’re all about making it real and powering the progress for learners of all kinds. We’re excited to once again be collaborating with St. Nicks Alliance and gearing up to launch the fifth cohort of our collaborative data analytics career preparation training for unemployed and underemployed New York City residents—officially kicking off this October.

Since 2022, more than 60 students have successfully completed this live, instructor-led data analytics training program and learned some of the market’s most in-demand tech skills in Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python, and more.

As with all of our tech training programs, our data analytics career prep is all about real-world success. That’s why each unit of our training program includes credentialing exams as well as project-based practical experience that simulates real-world, on-the-job responsibilities.

The result? Learners prepared to move forward with real skills. In our four previous cohorts, nearly 70% of students graduated with at least one industry-recognized certification.

Connecting Real Skills to Real Passions

Our collaborative data analytics course culminates in a celebration and graduation ceremony where students present their capstone projects to friends, family, and even employers when possible. These projects reflect students’ own interests, digging into relevant public data sets. Past themes have featured analyses of cancer detection tactics, deep dives into the sinking of the Titanic, and investigations into loan approvals by neighborhood.

Beyond expert technical instruction provided by real-world practitioners, all students receive initial preparation training from the St. Nicks Alliance staff, as well as in-depth career coaching throughout the program. Both the St. Nicks Alliance and GA teams work closely with graduates to best prepare them for post-program employment in the field.

I wish this learning experience never ended.

Putting Real Skills to Work

Many of our cohorts (including our next one to launch in October) feature internship opportunities for students immediately following graduation. Prior graduates have worked with the St. Nicks team to secure five-week, paid internships at organizations like:

  • Woodhull Hospital
  • Grant Associates
  • The United Nations
  • Schools that Can
  • JBI Software
  • And many more

Some students even received full-time offers from their internship host following their initial internship.

Beyond internships, our grads have also found success in securing full-time employment following their training. GA + St. Nicks Alliance Data Analytics Program graduates have secured full-time roles that utilize their newfound data skills at industry leaders like:

  • Amazon
  • PayPal
  • NASA
  • Viva Eve
  • Youth Justice Network
  • The Research Foundation for SUNY
  • And many more

General Assembly has given me a chance to change my trajectory in my career path and has opened my eyes to new possibilities in data analytics.
