Tom Lawrance is Head of Global Industry Careers at Oxford Saïd Business School, and his role includes coaching MBAs on their career transition and running interview skills workshops based on insights from working with hundreds of different employers across a wide spectrum of sectors. Tom has a 24 year career with 6 different pivots. Starting in events, he then worked as a journalist at a national magazine before working in a start-up running web traffic campaigns and content. Tom then began an 11year career at Amazon, 8 years of which were spent in marketing where he led this function for Amazon’s movies and TV retail business in the UK. Tom’s passion for recruiting as a hiring manager and senior interviewer then led to a switch into a new career in recruiting, where he ran Amazon’s Leadership programs across Europe. During his time at Amazon, Tom was involved in designing recruiting processes using behavioural interviews, trained new hires on interviewing best-practice, and he hosted over 1,000 interviews as a senior leader.
