Syed Asim Hussain
Co-founder, Black Sheep Restaurants
Syed Asim Hussain is a co-founder of Black Sheep Restaurants, and is responsible for the daily operations and financials of the group, as well as new business development. He has extensive experience in restaurant operations and finance.
Born in Hong Kong, raised in Pakistan, and educated in the US, Asim spent three years at investment management firm BNY Mellon in New York City after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2010 with the intention of continuing his finance career, but quickly realized his true passion in the restaurant industry. He instead took on a year-long apprenticeship with the restaurant group Dining Concepts, which gave him the experience in restaurant management and operations, and offered an inside look into the day-to-day operations of many of the group’s successful restaurants, including Craft Steak, Bistecca and Lupa. During his time at Dining Concepts, Asim also formed a close working relationship with the group's Director of Culinary Operations Christopher Mark. The two shared similar entrepreneurial aspirations and a desire to reinvigorate the dining industry in Hong Kong, and in 2011, teamed up to create Black Sheep Restaurants.
Outside of his restaurants, Asim loves to travel and is passionate about all things Pakistan from poetry, politics to cricket.
