A lifelong writer, Shauna Ahern began chronicling her gluten-free culinary experiences almost immediately upon being diagnosed, resulting in the popular website GlutenFreeGirl.com. When she met her husband, Chef Daniel Ahern, in 2007, she not only took on his name, but she added his moniker—and expertise—to her already extremely popular website. Before becoming executive chef at The Hardware Store on Vashon Island, Washington, Ahern worked as far away as Gramercy Tavern in New York and Papillon in Denver. And since meeting Shauna Ahern, and wanting to share everything he creates with her, Ahern transitioned his menu from partially to completely gluten-free, proving that so-called "restricted" diets are not by default restricted in sophistication or flavor.
Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef has been named one of the best food sites in the world by Gourmet.com, BonAppetit.com, and The London Times, as well as being named one of the 20 best blogs by and for women by The Sunday Telegraph. And Shauna Ahern recently transformed the content of her website to book form. Gluten Free Girl: How I Found the Food That Loves Me Back is now in paperback form. And her second book, Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef: A Love Story in 100 Tempting Recipes, written with her husband, was published in the fall of 2010.
