Louisville
Shannon Fehr produced the first Women in Tech (WIT) conference in 2015 in Louisville, KY, because she was tired of being the only woman in the room at IT events. Many people doubted that Shannon could fill a room with just women. "Are there that many women in IT?" "Do they care about enhancing their career with educational events and networking?" Shannon knew the answer was yes well before the day arrived. The first WIT event was a huge success with 100 women - larger than any other event Shannon put on in her 10 years at boice.net (a technology company located in New Albany, IN).
Along the way, Shannon got introduced to planning weddings and started her own side hustle. In 2017, Shannon quit her corporate job and turned her side hustle into her full-time gig. Missing the IT industry, Shannon decided to put on another WIT event. With the help of volunteers and local companies like Papa Johns, the second WIT event tripled in size. "The IT industry is like no other I have ever been a part of- I just love the industry and I love working with the women in IT. The women are so supportive of one another and want to see one another succeed." In 2019, due to COVID-19 and wedding cancellations, Shannon started a new company called RockIT Women. RockIT Women will provide additional services and programs that will fuel women and propel them to be all they can be! RockIT Women is designed to help close the gender gap in IT.
Shannon graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in marketing and is married to her high school sweetheart--they have two teenage children. When not planning weddings or events, Shannon loves entertaining family and friends and hiking in parks.
