Shannon Curtis writes songs and performs them as a dynamic one-woman show.

She makes records with her husband, producerJamie Hill, with a cinematic "artpop" sound.

And the two of them set out every year to deliver Shannon’s songs to audiences across the continent, wrapped up in intimate experiences with a powerfully punk DIY aesthetic.

They’re currently preparing for their 8th annual house concert tour, which will take them to about 75 backyards and living rooms all over North America. Each show on their tours is a community-driven effort, hosted by someone who supports the music Shannon and Jamie make, for the host’s local community of friends and neighbors.

The astonishing success of the house concert model they invented (and continue to perfect with each tour) led them to write a book about it — No Booker, No Bouncer, No Bartender: How I Made $25,000 on a 2-Month House Concert Tour (And How You Can Too) — which debuted at #1 on Amazon’s Music Business Bestsellers list in 2014.

In November 2018, Shannon and Jamie launched a weekly podcast and online community, called Misfit Stars. Instead of focusing on house concerts or music more generally, this podcast gives them a weekly opportunity to have an hour-long conversation with one another about what's on their mind that week, from a deeply humanist point of view.

Shannon and Jamie are passionate about teaching what they know to other artists, so that those artists can develop and grow their own career-sustaining communities of supporters. To this end, they host intensive customized residential mentorship retreats at their home in Tacoma, during which they brain-dump as much DIY career and business strategy into other artists as they can take onboard. They also do continuous ongoing mentorship of a small army of DIY artists worldwide via email and text.

They’re committed to this because they believe that:

    • The world needs more art.

    • There are people whose purpose on this planet is to make art.

    • Those people shouldn't be spending their days in a cubicle to support an elaborate music hobby.

    • The world needs more opportunities to engage with and support independent art in meaningful ways.
