Human-centred designer, facilitator and founder of E tū; Rachel’s work centres around circular design, education and awareness building. Founded in 2018, E tū is the Māori word to ‘stand’ a connection to Rachel's ancestry. E tū is taking a ‘stand’ for the environment by raising awareness about the harmful impact textile waste has on our planet, she is doing this by respecting the resources that have gone into making the products we consume by keeping them in circulation for longer. Rachel believes products shouldn't cost the earth and that we all have a role to play as designers and consumers to ensure resources are used, consumed and disposed of responsibly.
Rachel is currently producing E tu's first major exhibition as part of Melbourne Design Weeks 2021 program (https://designweek.melbourne/events/by-product-circular-design-open/). Titled By-Product, the exhibition explores circular economy and open-source principles while applying Human Centred design frameworks to pose the question "How might knowledge sharing solve design’s waste problem?
