Nathan is a graduate of the Software Engineering Immersive Remote program at General Assembly. He decided to pursue learning how to code when he was living in Shanghai on a work trip while building a new manufacturing facility in Suzhou, and it was the best decision he’s made in a long time. During the program, he found that his time as a medical welder building prototype cryogenic pressure vessels gave him the troubleshooting skills that translated well to coding.

General Assembly's community was one of the first things he noticed. It was incredible and the most supportive environment he could have ever asked for. During the course, he worked with and made friends with his peers that are stronger than some friendships he’s had for years. So much so, that when he finished his program, he was going to move from NY to LA, and asked a friend from his cohort to drive across the country with him in his 1985 Lincoln Town Car. He got to meet many other friends from the cohort, and they all still meet for their own personal bi-weekly stand ups together. His love for working in group settings, and a desire to continue to hone what he’s learned, brought him to teach at General Assembly as an Instructional Associate (IA). His IAs were core to him not only learning but growing as a Software Engineer, and he wants to do the same for his students. Nathan feels he is the product of his instructors, and is more than happy to pass on what he’s been given and continue to learn alongside his students.

Outside of the world of coding, he loves working on classic cars, playing music (he has a B.S. in Audio Engineering), and building gaming PCs. He still also does GTAW welding, but not as much these days, and is starting to settle into life in LA. He is currently fascinated and interested in game development! If you'd like to see some of his works, his "Neuromancer" book themed portfolio site is at: https://coffeegremlin.com/
