Nate hails from Nebraska, where he grew up eating nothing but corn and beef (not really, of course -- they have soybeans too). He then went back to his land of birth to attend Colorado School of Mines, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. After that, he studied and developed LED phosphor materials at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he began his coding career and attained a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
He began teaching himself data science paradigms while working on stock trading strategies, and later at a solar cell factory (NuvoSun) in the bay area. Then after a brief entrepreneurial stint attempting to build wifi-connected water-cooled LEDs, moved on full-bore to data science. He completed the Udacity Machine Learning Nanodegree and Galvanize's Data Science Immersive in 2016. Currently, he is an assistant professor of data science at Regis University directing the masters in data science (MSDS) program.
