    Mica Alaniz is a Chicagoan, first and foremost, born and raised. After graduating with an MA in New Media Studies from DePaul, she went from email strategy, to design, to coding, to app development and is now a Software Engineer at the DNC, where she builds tools to support all Democratic candidates and their data needs, as well as grassroots organizing and voter empowerment. She is an advocate for diversity and inclusivity and is inspired by the success of other women of color in technology. She TAs classes for Techgirlz, has taught classes at Girl Develop It Chicago, mentors at Write/Speak/Code, volunteers for the Chicago Architecture Foundation, maintains an inconvenient baseball empire, tries to find time to read or play board and video games with friends, and is always trying to locate the nearest elote cart. She has this thing with coffee where she needs it to live.
