Maurice Garland is a Pittsburgh-born, Decatur-raised writer, radio personality and author. Currently serving as Senior Editor at Moguldom Media's HipHopWired.com, Garland has also been published in Black Enterprise, Complex, XXL, The Source and Creative Loafing. Garland is the co-host of the podcast Day 1 Radio on ABLRadio.com. In 2014 he co-authored of The Art Behind the Tape, the first ever book to chronicle Hip-Hop Mixtape history and culture. Garland has hosted shows at the A3C and CMJ music festivals and has appeared as cultural commentator on VH1 and Revolt. Garland spends his spare time volunteering and mentoring at local YMCAs, The Wren's Nest and Vox Teen Communications. In 2016, Garland co-founded the Pinkie Ross Scholarship Fund which offers financial assistance to incoming college freshmen attending his alma mater, Fort Valley State University.
