Melbourne-based Matthew Lewin, is the current 2017 Australian barista champion runner up with a vision to increase coffee innovation and education globally. At Axil Coffee Roasters for over 5 years now he's developed a diversified skillset working as Head Roaster, Quality Control and green bean purchasing directly from origin. Matt currently co-owns Mayday Café and Penny for Pound. His wealth of experience is personified by competing in barista competitions placing at the very top in Australia every year since beginning 4 years ago. Matt’s goal is to represent Australia at the next World Barista Championship in Amsterdam (2018) and to later become a Global Ambassador, sharing his passion and knowledge of specialty coffee.
