Coming from an Economics background and bearing a strange aversion for all things computer-related, Lois never expected herself to build a career in the data world. Upon graduation, she took a leap of faith and joined a deep-technology start-up, where she got her first taste of data. Fast forward to today, she is pursuing a meaningful career in data at Skillsfuture Singapore.

In her 5 years of working with data, Lois mainly worked on text data analytics and manipulation. She first started off as an account manager for clients with data consultancy needs, then she worked in the capacity of a project manager and data analyst concurrently in delivering data projects. Through these experiences, she was able to pick up coding skills on-the-job and learn best practices from more experienced colleagues. Lois also had the opportunity of partnering with local university faculty members in joint research projects, where she worked alongside senior professors and mentors.

Lois has worked in different types of organisation, where the flow and control of data varied greatly. Today she is a strong advocate for robust internal data management, which forms the foundation of the organisation’s data strategies. Thus far, Lois has certainly found her data career a challenging, yet fulfilling one.
