    Designer and Program Co-Lead for the Last-Mile Money CoLab, IDEO

    John Won (he/him) began learning and using graphic design over 25 years ago for community organizations and movements around HIV/AIDS, racial justice, and LGBTQ liberation. Professionally, he began working in 2000 as a news graphics/information designer. And for the past 10 years he has been a human-centered designer and consultant focusing primarily on design for social impact in emerging markets.

    Currently, John is is a designer and Program Co-Lead for the Last-Mile Money CoLab at IDEO, a global design and innovation firm. Last Mile Money is a 5-year initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with a mission to develop collaborative partnerships that connect underserved communities with the digital economy. Previously, he worked with a number of organizations including BFA, Accion, and IDEO.org with a focus on financial inclusion to improve access and use of financial services for low-income people.

    John has been an activist, facilitator, and volunteer leader in organizations and movements since the 1990s. He has served on the Board of Directors of multiple community groups, including The Audre Lorde Project, CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities, and Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training (GIFT). He currently helps to lead the KQTx National Network, a growing network of Korean Queer and Trans community formations, leaders, and allies.
