John Serrao

John is a product manager, front-end developer and user experience professional, all rolled into one. He is currently the lead developer at THOR Studio, a communications agency in DC, where he develops and leads all technical projects for the agency.

John's career has spanned many disciplines inside of the technology field. He started working as a consultant in the telepresence space for the Human Productivity Lab, where he built their flagship publication into a website. Jolly Green Designs was his first creative agency launched from that experience, from which he was recruited to start a technical division at the DC creative agency CHIEF.

After working across many agencies in the federal government at CHIEF for over three years and establishing both the tech and UX teams, he became CTO + Head of Product for DaoCloud, a wellness social network and marketplace. John helped build the initial application and recruited a development / UX team to further the project along, taking the user base from 200 up to 5000. John's favourite product is Trello; he swears by it as a task management tool and believes it's got the best UX in the business.

In his free time, John is a swimmer who you might just find up at the Wilson Aquatic Center.

In recognition of his exemplary service in the classroom, John has been selected as a member of General Assembly's Distinguished Faculty program. John serves as the chair of GA's Product Advisory Board for our front-end courses.
