Johanna is the Chief Development Officer at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, overseeing Real Estate Development, Design and Construction, Leasing, Planning, Transportation, and External Affairs as the Yard embarks on a new era of expansion. She leads the rezoning and Master Plan development efforts for the Yard, particularly the creation of a new building typology for urban manufacturing and its ground-up construction. Prior to joining the Yard, she served as the Director of Planning and Development at Sidewalk Labs, an Alphabet company focused on urban innovation, where she oversaw the residential, commercial, and retail program as well as land-use negotiations and engagement with the real estate community for Sidewalk’s development project in Toronto. Before that she was in private real estate development, designing, entitling, and building a large-scale mixed-use project on the Brooklyn waterfront. She is a land-use lawyer by training and spent five years helping to lead the economic development team at City Hall. She was responsible for delivering the first-micro unit building in New York City, completing the Highline, and implementing the Citi Bike system.
