New York City
Jessica Way is the VP of People and Culture at Mic, overseeing the people, recruiting, and operations teams. New to Mic, she is focused on developing establishing the culture at Mic as an innovative workplace where current employees can flourish in their careers and where prospective employees will put Mic on the top of their career destination lists.
Jessica joined Mic from Derek Lam, where she was, most recently, the Director of Human Resources. Jessica spent 8 years at the fashion house, building the company from 24 employees and one Ready to Wear collection to 100 employees with two collections which included accessories, shoes, and denim. Working closely with the CEO, the COO, and the designer himself, Derek Lam, she built out the company and the culture from scratch; guiding the company through some of the toughest economic times fashion and retail had seen in many years. She oversaw recruiting, operations, all of human resources, and organizational development.
Before that, Jessica spent many years working in politics and city government. She managed a city council campaign in Queens, worked on Michael Bloomberg’s re-election campaign as a canvasser, and acted as the Executive Assistant to the Public Advocate, Betsy Gotbaum, when she first moved to New York City from Kentucky in 2004.
She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BA in English and minor in Political Science.
