Jelte Liebrand previously worked as a Software Engineer for Google in San Francisco. Sailing has been a lifelong passion for Jelte since childhood which eventually led him to participate in the six-week, San Francisco to New York leg, of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. While the yachts he was sailing were state of the art, he found the onboard technology outdated, clunky and not even remotely user friendly. After the race Jelte set-out to create what is today known as savvy navvy, a tech company that specialises in making marine navigation easy and convenient for everyone. The app analyses all the data that sailors need, taking into account real-time weather forecasts, chart and tidal data, in seconds, on your phone. With savvy navvy sailors can now create highly detailed passage plans in seconds and cross-check traditional navigation for greater peace of mind at sea. Jelte was named Seedrs Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019 and recently lead his team through their third successful funding round which will see the team and the company expand during the 2021 boating boom.
