Seattle
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jason was an avid craft beer aficionado until his diagnosis of gluten intolerance at age 25. Having regularly enjoyed such top-notch beers as Russian River’s Pliny the Elder and North Coast’s Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, Jason was thoroughly dissatisfied with the limited and mediocre gluten-free beers available at the time. While in graduate school for traditional Chinese medicine, he took up homebrewing to relieve some stress, hoping also to re-create some of the glorious beer flavors that he dearly missed. His hobby quickly became an obsession, and after nearly fifty successful homebrew batches, he decided he’d rather be a brewer than an acupuncturist. After a fateful e-mail from his future partner Brian Thiel, Jason relocated to Seattle in 2013 to become co-founder and head brewer of Ghostfish Brewing Company.
In addition to brewing award-winning craft beer that just happens to be gluten-free, Jason has many hobbies, including home music production, digital art and graphic design, cooking, aerial rope and silks, bouldering, and photography. He lives with his collection of unusual musical instruments in West Seattle’s scenic Pigeon Point neighborhood.
