Dr. Chao is Research Director at Wisers Information Limited, the world's largest Chinese information intelligence provider. He established and leads the Wisers Research lab, the Hong Kong’s first dedicated industrial research lab in artificial intelligence based media technologies, focusing on interdisciplinary applied research and technology innovation for automated media information processing and market intelligence analytics, involving techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, data mining, image recognition, social analytics, and big data systems.
Dr. Chao is an expert in artificial intelligence with nearly 20 years’ experience in technology innovation, R&D, and project management. Prior to Wisers, he was Lead Researcher and Project Manager with NCR Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, in Scotland and Hong Kong, where he developed one of the world's most advanced automated banknote validation technologies, which has been successfully commercialized worldwide. Before NCR, he taught and conducted research at the Universities of Paisley and Glasgow in the UK and the University of Alberta in Canada.
Dr. Chao received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Control Theory and Engineering both from Beijing Institute of Technology. He has been granted with over 20 international patents and published over 15 international journal and conference papers.
