Dean Tambling
WDI Instructor, General Assembly
Los Angeles
Dean Tambling has an eclectic history. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Film and History, he spent a year with Teach for America, teaching science to the middle schoolers of South St. Louis. He picked up coding as an avocation during this time, teaching himself rudimentary JavaScript and building pages with HTML and CSS. He then dropped teaching as a vocation, and packed up and left St. Louis for San Francisco, where he first went through Dev Bootcamp and then worked as an engineer on the web team of Everlane, a fashion ecommerce company. There, he got real-world experience with Rails at massive scale, while also helping with Everlane’s efforts to transition to a service-based architecture. He has yet to find a situation where his liberal arts degree is a major hindrance.
