Sydney
Chong was a graduate of the first Data Science Immersive course held at General Assembly Sydney. Like many professionals in the 21st century he's had a rather diverse career path encompassing many areas of the data analytics and data science spectrum. As a data analyst in the government he conducted analysis and reporting on the Australian CPI while researching new methods for its compilation. He also briefly explored the markets as a financial trader where he cultivated an interest in data science, envisioning using neural networks to predict short term price changes, before jumping on the bandwagon with General Assembly and realizing this vision in the final project.
This led him on a wild adventure beginning with Freelancer, the Australian tech company and online services marketplace where he improved the algorithm matching buyers to sellers. Afterwards as a data science consultant at Deloitte he’s applied machine learning to solve business problems ranging from automating financial auditing to predicting failures in telecommunications networks. In the process he’s enjoyed both meeting rigorous technical requirements and delivering quick and dirty data solutions. He’s passionate not just about building the best model, but in leveraging intuition to illustrate technical concepts and facilitate a deeper understanding of them.
When not in front of a glowing screen, Chong enjoys hiking, meditating, and the occasional board game. He’s a true believer in what data science and AI can do for the world and is extremely excited to make his contribution.
