Cathy Sison, also known by her artist name Kyashi, is a Melbourne-based designer, art director and calligrapher. For eight years she’s been bringing her design magic to all sorts – council, fashion, beauty, an internship in New York and teaching at Holmsglen TAFE – and is now a creative designer at social enterprise Thankyou.
Her fascination with Japanese culture and calligraphy inspired Kyashi Writes, an Instagram community that connects over positive quotes, poems and lyrics all in Cathy’s signature cursive style.
The demand for her hand-written style is real. She’s been commissioned by Westfield, Lululemon, Factorie and GPO and you can see her work in window displays, banners, in-store displays and online.
She’s a big believer in balance and keeping one day that’s just for her and encourages others to find their own version of creative success – even with a day job.
If you’re ever on the Frankston train line, you might be lucky enough to spot an inspirational note she’s left for an unsuspecting passenger.
