Byron Fernandes

Lead UX Design Immersive Instructor at General Assembly

London

After graduating from university and a brief interlude as a travelling chef, Byron worked in marketing for a few years before getting struck by the UX bug. In 2009 he took an MSc in Human-Computer Interaction at UCL, and hasn’t looked back since. He has spent much of his career as a freelancer, giving him exposure to a wide range of organisations and sectors - leading a complete redesign of Addison Lee’s mobile app in response to Uber, working on Costa Express’ interface for self-serve coffee bars, and developing a cloud photo management platform for Canon, codenamed Project 1709, to name just a few.

As the Lead Instructor on multiple cohorts of General Assembly's 12 week full-time User Experience Design Immersive course, Byron has facilitated over 1500 hours of remote training. He has supported hundreds of participants in their transition to remote communication, including guiding many of them in running their own remote design sprints, and coaching other instructors in how to cultivate a compelling online learning environment.
