    Brian Mays

    Instructional Associate

    San Francisco

Brian does everything backwards. Before participating in General Assembly’s SEI Bootcamp Program in 2021, he completed his Computer Science degree at San Francisco State University a few years earlier. And before he received his degree, he had already enjoyed a long career as both a Database Engineer and Systems Administrator in the biotech, fintech, and social media industries in Silicon Valley.

So if you’re looking for someone to commiserate with you on your unconventional journey on the road to Software Engineering, Brian knows exactly where you’re coming from. He loves encouraging students as they learn programming and computer science basics, as well as imparting vital research skills to help them along the path.

In his spare time, you can find Brian lifting heavy things at the gym, enjoying stand-up comedy shows, playing games of all sorts, and volunteering at local community organizations.

Brian's students say,"Brian has a great sense of humor, is very approachable, and instilled a sense of support in the times I asked him for help. If there was a question he wasn’t sure about or didn’t have the answer to, he was open about it, would take a moment to look into the issue, and would always follow up and share a resource that would address the problem."
