Being in love with computers since he was 8 years old, Angus has always been enthusiastic about computers and AI. When he was in his fifth grade, he taught himself C++ and was attracted by all the data structures and sorting algorithms. This persistent passion has pushed him forward since then. Angus received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from National Taiwan University. His doctoral research explored the Natural Language Processing (NLP) with a special focus on semantic analysis of spoken languages.
Angus joined Google after his study and became a tech lead in Google AI in the USA. He worked on the natural language understanding technology which powered the first generation of GMail SmartReply and Google Assistant. In 2018, Angus joined Appier as the Director of AI in Singapore. Currently, Angus is the AVP of Data Science at Tokopedia, in which he oversees the company’s strategy on AI and manages the Data Science team in different locations.
Angus’ favorite language is C++. During his leisure time, he plays photography and squash though nowadays he spends most of his time on his two lovely daughters.
