    Instructional Associate, General Assembly

    Seattle

Alanna is a creator and winemaking professional who began learning data science in 2019. Her math, physics, and language experience, to name a few fields, framed her entry into the world of programming and deep learning. She continues to root around in the machine learning forest by finding projects where she can incorporate machine learning techniques and by supporting and learning from her fellow practitioners.

    IN CONVERSATION WITH ALANNA:

What is your favorite technical skill to work with on your own projects and why?

Trying to make good visualizations or things like streamlit to showcase models/ EDA. Because a good representation is a satisfying way to frame an insight or a model.

What is your favorite technical skill to teach to students and why?

    Python. It is fundamental.

What is most important to you about teaching technical skills at General Assembly?

First to be confident in my ability to use them and then that students understand the benefit of the new skills.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to learn technical skills to reach new career goals?

Make a realistic schedule for yourself and hold yourself accountable.

    WHAT ALANNA'S STUDENTS ARE SAYING...

"Alanna might be one of the most welcoming instructors I've ever had when it comes to wanting to help. I, personally, am very grateful for the patience and resolve she has shown when I've come to her with both simple and complex problems. This is my first time ever experiencing/learning the majority of the material we've covered, so her willingness to help me has been more than appreciated.
