    About this event

Voice Camp continues the tradition of 1-day immersive learning-by-doing workshops organized by the Google Developer Group NYC, but this time focused on conversational design and voice apps. In particular, this event is part of the "Build Actions For Your Community" global series supported by Google Developers and the Assistant team, with a mission to help developers create Actions On Google for communities that we care about - whether they be professional networks, interest groups or local hometown businesses. We'll kickstart the event with talks on building conversational experiences and conversational design, followed by a self-guided codelab to build your first action. The rest of the day will be dedicated to a mini-hack with prizes and bragging rights, and conclude with attendee feedback on the platform and a discussion on next steps and resources for furthering your voice app development. Why It’s Important<\strong> The future is increasingly becoming "AI First" and a key part of that vision is the ability to engage in natural language conversations with machines around you whether at home, or on the go. Industry trends indicate that conversational UI/UX will fundamentally alter the way users interact and engage with brands, and will likely become the preferred interaction paradigm for connecting consumers to contextually-relevant services and experiences. Learning to design and develop experiences for signature platforms (including Google Assistant) will be a critical skill for next-generation application developers.

    Takeaways

Attendees can expect to get an understanding of conversational design (for voice apps) and hands-on development experience with building voice-driven experiences (with Actions on Google) that can support their local communities. Finally, the mini-hack is a great way to go from awareness to actionable learning by giving your app ideas a voice.
