About This Workshop

Do you keep hearing the word ‘SQL’ buzzing around and want to find out more about it? This workshop will provide an introduction to fundamental concepts in relational databases and using the query language SQL. Participants will learn how to work with data that is stored in a relational database. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to use basic SQL commands to pull data to answer business questions. This workshop is for people who have never used SQL or relational databases and want to learn more about these topics.

General Assembly’s classes, workshops and events are recreational and for avocational purposes only. No certificate is awarded.

About the Instructors

Nigel was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Awarded a Presidential Scholarship to study economics at Hampton University. He then returned to NYC to complete his Bachelors in Economics at New York University. He worked in credit derivative markets at Goldman Sachs and Old Lane before founding The Street Academy for Financial Literacy, a non-profit serving over 1000 NYC youth annually. Today, Nigel is the Co-Founder and COO at BALLSTAR, a social database for global basketball statistics.

Vaughn is a Brooklyn born, father of two, serial entrepreneur who is currently on a mission to organize the world's sports data. Before launching his sports data platform Ballstar, Vaughn served as associate director of Alumni affairs for Prep for Prep and later as an Alum Trustee. Using data to build community, make connections, and to better focus fundraising efforts Vaughn is most proud of the work he has done to nurture niche communities of Alums like those in the arts and tech communities. Now Vaughn uses data to bring together the global Basketball community.
